We have exciting news to announce on Monday about the land project for one of our churches in Chile. Below is an article one of our supporting churches is using to inform their congregation about the need.

Our Story

Since arriving in Chile in 2005, God has allowed Jason Holt and his family to start three churches and a Bible college in the capital city of Santiago. They are passionate about preparing young men and women to reach Chile with the Gospel. Each of the young churches is now being pastored by men Jason has prepared. One of those pastors is Nicolas Mazzella.

Several years ago this once agnostic liquor salesman could have never imagined the transformation that was going to take place in his life. Months after seeing the change God had brought in his wife and children’s lives after accepting Christ as Savior, Nicolas came to the feet of Jesus too. Now, four years later, he is pastoring the Iglesia Bautista Omega (Omega Baptist Church). It’s amazing to see this man who once was destroyed by sin now lead a growing congregation of new believers.

Our Need

Since this church was planted about 18 months ago, dozens of people have been saved by God’s grace. The community building they rent 2 days a week for church activities is no longer adequate for the growing church.

As they began to pray about this need some months ago, God led them to an ideal piece of land at a bargain price! But land is very expensive in this densely populated capital city. They still need over $40,000 to buy the property and build a small building. Please pray with them that God would supply this need in the next few months.

Today is the 6th anniversary of the first church we started in Chile. I am more excited about this anniversary than I have been about any other one. That’s because my family will not be there. Sounds like a strange statement, right? Let me explain…

Missions is all about evangelizing the lost, starting local churches, training them in the Word of God, and preparing pastors to continue the local church ministries (Acts 14:21-23). Today is the first anniversary Sunday I will not be preaching. My dear friend and son in the faith, Cristian Alarcon, will preach the service and baptize 10 people. A whole host of Chilean men and women today are preparing their Sunday school classes, bringing visitors, and preparing the music. That’s what missions is all about!!

Don’t get me wrong! My heart aches to be there. I love the people and the country more than I can explain. Chile is my home, and they are my family. But today I am so proud to see them stand on their own and to see God use them in such a mighty way!

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 3 John 4

The Land for Churches in Chile Project has naturally developed into a 3 part plan – downpayment, building, and final payment.

Originally back in September 2010, we asked you to pray with us about land for one of our recent and growing church plants. From then on, we began to pray for $75,000 dollars to purchase property, as we searched high and low for the best deal. God has opened the door for us to buy an ideal piece of property in a fantastic location (more about that to come) for a total of $70,000!! *Notice we are $5,000 under budget, which is always a good thing.

Here’s a break down of the 3 part plan:

1. Phase 1 – the downpayment – During Phase 1, God sent in $25,360 through many of our faithful supporters. We are using these funds for the downpayment of the property! In just a few more days we will have full use of the property!! Phase 1 is finished!!!

2. Phase 2 – the building – Although we will have complete access to the property in a few more days, there is currently no building on the land. It will be difficult to fully utilize the property without a building, especially since we are entering the winter months in Chile. During Phase 2, we need to raise only $11,000 for the building! By the way, this $11,000 is not in addition to the total cost of $70,000… it’s part of it.

If God provides the funds for this phase during June, we will start building in July! Pray with us for another miracle during the next 5 weeks! Who would be the first to give?

3. Phase 3 – the final payment – During this phase we will need to raise the additional $33,640 to reach our total goal of $70,000.

Church in a dance studio

From June-August 2010 we held neighborhood Bible studies in a community void of any gospel preaching churches. In September God led us to launched Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening services. The big question for us was what location to use for this new church plant.

As the guys began to look for a community center that would loan or rent us their space a couple of days a week, they came across a dance studio. After brief negotiation, they agreed to rent us the small building on Sundays and Wednesday evenings. From then on, the pulpit has been just a few feet from the wall mounted ballet bar!

Problems with this location:

1. The building is great for about 40 people. Right now, the group of believers is filling this building weekly. They need more room to keep growing.

2. The start of Sunday School is on hold, because we do not have space for classes at the dance studio.

3. There is no rental contract at the dance studio. They only let us use the facility month to month. In other words, at any given moment they could kick us out. By the way, they were unwilling to sign a contract with a church because they want to maintain the right at any time to discontinue our usage of the building.

4. Not only do we need a building for our 3 weekly services, but we need a place to host children’s rallies, weekly teens meetings, monthly women’s activities, men’s meetings, and couple’s meetings. In the dance studio, we can never have extra activities.

5. We need a place for discipleship. One of the building blocks of our ministry has been one-on-one discipleship. These meetings can take place in the home, except when the immediate family is not supportive of the decision one made to follow Christ in a Baptist church – which is the case with most new believes.

6. Also, they will not let us put a sign out front except during our church services (3 hours a week). Unfortunately most people in the community do not take the church very seriously because of its temporary, transient atmosphere.

Be praying that God will provide the 11K needed for a building on the new property!!!
