I just saw a report about a local supermarket near our church that was held at gunpoint up for 20 minutes last night. Just an hour before, a young man was shot in the stomach just a few blocks from our church.

These tragic reports have become the usual headlines of the evening Santiago news…

Although it’s commonplace to hear these types of reports, they always scream to me that WE NEED MORE GOSPEL PREACHING CHURCHES IN THIS CITY!!! Pray that God will call more people to the ministry and that He will give us wisdom and boldness to more effectively reach our community for Him.

Read this great article on my friend’s site. Let me know what you think.

How to Pray for a Missionary

Sunday – SPIRITUAL LIFE
The Missionary knows this is essential.
Hectic schedules can crowd out personal time with the Lord.
Satan constantly works against the missionary’s efforts in this area.

Monday – MONEY
Pray for God’s provision.
The missionary not only needs personal finances but is also responsible for all the ministry expenses.

Tuesday – TEMPTATIONS
Missionaries are not unlike all of us. Satan works to bring temptations in every area.
The complexities of a foreign language, different cultures and the load of ministry can bring fatigue and discouragement.

Wednesday – WITNESS
There are many barriers to the missionary spreading the Gospel.
The field may have many languages.
The missionary may have to confront the teachings of the culture.
The missionary needs God’s power to open doors and to share the Gospel. Prayer warriors back home are the hidden strength of a missionary. We play a major role in missions when we pray for their witness to be effective.

Thursday – TEAM MEMBERS
Friction can develop between missionaries and local partners.
Pray that God will give them extra grace and understanding to work together.
Pray that God will supernaturally preserve the unity of the team.

Friday – FAMILY
The missionary’s wife and children are important and have special needs.
Raising a family, preparing food, dealing with a different culture, etc.
The children grow up in a foreign country with unique problems and pressures.

Saturday – SAFETY
Travel while on deputation, furlough and on the foreign field.
Some serve in countries where it is illegal to share the Gospel.
Health problems
Crime

Yesterday was a crazy day at the port. We finally were able to get the Kenney’s container out of Valparaiso. Jason and his family arrived to Santiago about 7 weeks ago. They stayed with us for about 4 weeks, then they moved into their house - their empty house! The container should have arrived nearly 3 weeks ago… After all the problems, yesterday evening we arrived at their house with all their stuff. Praise the Lord!

Jason Kenney and I are both out of the same home church and have been friends for years. We are very excited that they are here, and we’re looking forward to what God is going to do through their lives. Pray for them as they start language school next week.

We are just a few days into ’08. I can’t tell you how excited I am about this new year. By faith, we are expecting God to do great things for His glory in Chile. It is amazing to see God’s hand at work in the lives of so many people here in Chile. I can’t wait to see how He is going to work in ’08.

Check back frequently to see what God is doing in the weeks to come. We’ve got some pretty crazy things planned, and we’ll let you know about them as the months pass.

Also, partner with us in prayer during ’08! Consider making a commitment to pray for our family, the ministry in Chile, and the people every week throughout ’08. Drop us an email at holt@biblicalmissions.com if you plan to make that commitment. We need your prayers!!
