In our new life in Christ, we are continuously leaving sinful practices behind and developing God honoring life patterns. This is just what the last part of Ephesians 4 is all about! Although the new believers in Ephesus were saved out of a wicked society, it’s curious to note which sin God chose first to address – lying.

Maybe it shouldn’t seem so strange when we consider all the Bible says about the battle for the truth. The father of the lie, Satan (John 8:44) first deceived Eve in the garden of Eden. Since then, he has strived relentlessly to blind the eyes of all humanity to the truth (2 Corinthians 4:4).

On the other hand, the truth gives us freedom (John 8:32). Also, the Bible says that Christ (John 14:16), the Holy Spirit (John 16:13), and the Bible (John 17:17) are truth.

No wonder there is such a heated battle raging over this subject! It represents the very nature of God, and it’s what gives us freedom from the chains of sin! No wonder Satan from the beginning has done everything possible to hid, disguise, and pervert it!

The essence of missions work is to proclaim the truth were lies have blinded souls for centuries. God grant us boldness to speak the message without compromise to this generation.
