Urgent Need Update!
Thank you all for your prayers and offerings we have received thus far for the land purchase here in Santiago. Over $20,000.00 has been promised!! But we still have a long way to go, and a short time to get there. We have several new developments to share as well.
This is a view of area houses where we are working.
Shortly after our initial correspondence in October, we were informed that the land we are planning to purchase lacks 120 square meters in order to be used for religious meetings. The norm for our community is a minimum of 300m2, and the land is 380m2. But in a small section of the community, the area where our church is located, the minimum is 500m2. This new information presents us with two obstacles: 1) We cannot use the land without purchasing a neighboring lot, and 2) Future prospects of a different land purchase is much more difficult. The initial piece of land is two housing lots. One is a corner lot, which means it is larger. Normally, in order to reach 500m2, 4 lots would have to be purchased. With this corner lot, only 3 lots are needed to reach the 500m2.
After over a month of fervent prayer and exhausting all our options, we have good news. One of the neighbors has agreed to sell us his land. This would bring the total square meters to over 500. Nothing happens fast here in Chile. We applied for an exception from the government, and were denied. After conversations with both neighbors, that door seemed to be closing as well. But last week, one neighbor decided to change his mind.
The concentrated outreach for our church is a four square mile radius, with over 100,000 people. When developing this area, the government divided the land into housing lots of approximately 150m2 each, property for schools, and property for public parks. There is no raw piece of land available for purchase. When people want to start a business or a church, they must buy connected housing lots. As the neighbors realize that someone is trying to purchase their house with other connecting lots, they raise the price considerably. So one of the details that makes this opportunity so unique is that two lots are already connected and are being sold at a normal price.

As you can see in the pictures, most houses are on alleys. As we previously mentioned, this property is on two main avenues and is only two houses away from our current rented facility; making transition easy for our congregation. Almost everyone walks to church.
I share all of these details with you to try to express the complicated situation and the incredible opportunity. The challenge is huge, and it has only gotten bigger this month! To purchase the two properties together, we need to raise $108,000.00. The owner of the first property has given us a one-month extension. We now have until the end of January to raise $66,000.00. We have arranged to purchase the second piece of property in March of 2008. This will leave us 15 months to raise the remaining $42,000.00. After consulting with a lawyer this week, we have been assured that our plans meet all legal requirements. Lord willing, we will be signing all contracts this week.

Our church people are doing all they can do to take on this burden. We have started a building fund project called “Project Nehemiah” and our goal is to raise several thousand dollars.
This weekend, one person was saved, six were baptized, and over 100 people attended the church. We are thrilled at how the ministry is growing, and we know that God has great things in store for the future.
