With the current political climate in the USA, the topic of socialism is a hot-button issue on talk radio and cable news networks. If you are like me, you grew up on the heels of the Cold War. Communism was the enemy, and Reagan was the hero.
As a missionary all things change. Chile is in the middle of presidential elections. The outgoing president belongs to the socialist party. One of the four main presidential candidates of Sunday’s elections was from the communist party. He got about 7% of the total vote. It’s still hard for me to believe that people in a free society actually vote for communism!!!
When you cross the boarders of the USA to preach the gospel to other nations and cultures, you have to leave many of your American ideologies behind (or at least hid them). Our goal is not to affect economic nor political inclinations in our field of service; our goal is to preach Christ crucified!
Many Americans do not accurately make the distinction between fighting for the truth and fighting for capitalism.
It’s hard to hear a group of ill-informed foreigners criticizing the American war efforts in the Middle East, but it’s part of life on the mission field. Learn to deal with it or don’t go to the foreign field!
We’ve been called to be God’s ambassador not the USA’s ambassador. FIght the good fight – which is the fight against sin and not the fight against opposing foreign policy.
The second you start defending America, you’ll close the door to many people’s hearts that need Christ.
Remember, we’re citizens of heaven now.
